The unique location of the U.S. Bank Center, in the “midfield” of downtown Seattle and a few blocks from the iconic Pike Place Market, presented the opportunity to rethink the tower’s retail/amenity podium to support new retail models and create a vibrant destination for tenants, visitors, and the community to gather and connect.
Central to this project were the existing atrium and the retail corridors, both of which served as a reminder of the building’s agreement with the city, requiring these areas to be accessible to the public. Navigating these requirements, we re-imagined the building’s essence while honoring its historical commitments.
The grand, bank-like lobby became separate, distinct spaces accessible to the public for work and socializing. It was an opportunity to redefine the POPO (Privately owned, publicly oriented) space.
